n Michael Chapman, 38, of 1249 Scott St., Kulpmont, waived charges of driving under the influence, driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed, and careless driving during his preliminary hearing Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Chapman was charged by Patrolman Terry Ketchem of the Coal Township Police Department following a traffic stop at 12:35 a.m. March 20 on Route 61.

Chapman was ordered by Gembic to appear for arraignment July 25 at the Northumberland County Courthouse in Sunbury, at which time he can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

n Charges of endangering the welfare of a child were waived to court by James Buck, 32, of 250 S. Wood St., Shamokin, during his preliminary hearing Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Buck was charged by Shamokin City Police Patrolman Shane Mowery following an investigation into injuries suffered by 22-month-old child Matthew Hills, the son of his girlfriend Jennifer Kriner between Sept. 1 and Dec. 16.

He was ordered by Gembic to appear for arraignment July 25 at the Northumberland County Courthouse in Sunbury, at which time he can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

n Daniel J. Dinoia, 30, of 6884 State Route 61, Coal Township, pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal mischief in a preliminary hearing Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Dinoia was charged following a May 28 incident at Weis Markets, Shamokin, when he attempted to steal three DVDs and three steaks from the store. The charge was filed by Shamokin City Police Cpl. Bryan Primerano.

Gembic ordered him to pay a $300 fine, court costs and $125 in restitution to Weis Markets. A charge of retail theft was withdrawn in the case.

n A disorderly conduct charge was ordered held for court by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin after Michael A. Knowles, 20, of 21 E. Commerce Street. Shamokin, did not appear for his preliminary hearing Tuesday.

Knowles was charged by Shamokin City Police Patrolman Scott Weaver following a disturbance at the Dunkin' Donuts shop in Shamokin, at 1 a.m. April 25.

He was ordered to appear for arraignment July 25 at the Northumberland County Courthouse in Sunbury, at which time he can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

Charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property were waived to court by Zachary J. Bowers, 20, of 215 S. Sixth St., Shamokin, during his preliminary hearing Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Bower was accused of taking $246.89 worth of merchandise from the Wal-Mart SuperCenter, Coal Township, while he was an employee there between March 20 and April 23. The charges were filed by Patrolman Jason Adams of the Coal Township Police Department.

He was ordered by Gembic to appear for arraignment July 25 at the Northumberland County Courthouse in Sunbury, at which time he can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
