MOUNT CARMEL - The five members of the Mount Carmel Municipal Authority were reappointed last week by the borough council, reported council President Tony Matulewicz. Matuewicz cast the lone dissenting vote.

"I voted no because there was no consideration of anyone else," said .

The five members - Larry Czeponis, Ray Rothermel, Glen Wetzel, John Bucanelli and Bob Shirmer - were all approved for re-appointment. All other council members approved the appointments with the exception of Councilman Ronald Tanney who was absent.

Czeponis is the chairman of the MCMA. Shirmer is also a member of the borough council.

Matulewicz noted he had nothing against any of the members, but when the issue came up last week, no one could name who they were or when their terms expired.

"They shouldn't be blindly appointed," he said by phone Tuesday.

The law, he said, grants them five-year terms or until a successor is appointed.

In other business, council was informed that the West End Fire Company's radiator burst while crews were making repairs to the roof.

"They called the insurance company and gave the borough a check for $2,500," said Matulewicz.

The council couldn't agree how the money should be spent because it has been undecided for months whether they would spend the money on the new roof or look for another building, said Matulewicz.

Ultimately, the money was placed in the general fund and earmarked for the radiator.
