Rev. Grumsey to celebrate 25th anniversary at Mother Cabrini
SHAMOKIN - The Rev. Dennis Grumsey, former longtime pastor of Mother Cabrini Church will celebrate his 25th anniversary in the priesthood with a special Mass at 11 a.m. Sunday in Mother Cabrini Church followed by a reception at Masser's Banquet Hall in Paxinos.
The priest, who served as the first pastor of Mother Cabrini Church for 15 years, was re-assigned last year to serve as pastor of St. Casimir Church in Baltimore. He also spent three years as a parochial vicar for the Tri-Parish of St. Stanislaus, St. Mary's and St. Michael.
'States rights' focus of meeting
SUNBURY - Emily Johnson, of Selinsgrove, the first vice president of the Snyder County Historical Society, will present a program at 7 p.m. today at the Northumberland County Historical Society, 1150 N. Front St. She will speak about the Susanna Cox and Ann Carson cases and former governor Simon Snyder's rare use of the veto and his loss in one of the earliest states rights conflicts with the federal government. A reception will follow the program which is free and open to the public.
An exhibit of items relating to Snyder and his political career will open Friday, June 3, at the Lore Degenstein Galley at Susquehanna University, and continue Saturday and Sunday afternoons through June 26.
Relay team planning Zumba fundraiser
COAL TOWNSHIP - Relay for Life of Shamokin is holding a Zumba-rama fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Lourdes Regional High School. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance fitness party that fuses hypnotic Latin and international rhythms and easy-to-follow dance moves to create a dynamic fitness program.
