The 4-H Youth Development Program of Northumberland County plans a recruitment night for a club based in the Sunbury Area from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Sunbury Penn State Extension Office, 443 Plum Creek Road.
The Indians Hills 4-H Club is seeking members and adult volunteers. This 4-H club, which has been in existence for many years, wants to get more young people and adults involved. Project leaders, teen members and 4-H staff will be there to answer questions and will have samples of project books and completed project examples. Light refreshments will be provided.
The Indian Hills 4-H Club offers adult leadership in projects such as air pistol, basketry, sewing, foods and nutrition and gardening, to name a few of the more than 175 project opportunities available. The club would welcome new adult volunteers to lead other projects. 4-H clubs are open to all boys and girls ages 8 to 18 (5- to 7-year-olds are also welcome, but there are limits on the projects they can take).
Once enrolled in a 4-H club, members have a wide variety of opportunities to attend fun and exciting events at the county, district, and state levels. There is a minimal $10 per member fee to help defray the cost of educational materials that members receive for their projects.
All those interested in becoming a 4-H member or leader are asked to attend the recruitment night. They are welcome and encouraged to attend the Snyder, Union, Northumberland (SUN) Area 4-H kickoff party from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at the Sunset Skating Rink in Shamokin Dam. Information will also be available at this event.
Anyone with questions about the 4-H program, needing more information about the recruitment night, or who is not able attend either of the recruitment events should contact Sam Nicola, Northumberland County 4-H youth development coordinator, at 784-6660, extension 14, or by e-mail at SamNicola@psu.edu.
