MILLERSVILLE - Paul Gurba has been selected to attend the Central Pennsylvania Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY) from Thursday to Sunday at Millersville University. Gurba will join 245 leaders representing many high schools from throughout central and northeast Pennsylvania.
For 53 years, HOBY leadership seminars have brought together select groups of high school sophomores to interact with groups of distinguished leaders in business, government and education to discuss present and future issues in an enthusiastic learning environment.

Gurba has received the Doug Dobson award for being "a (football) player with 100 percent heart and determination," the Eddie Griffiths Award for being "the (football) player with the most heart," the Coaches Award for "showing leadership on and off the field" as a football player, the Tylor Pfeiffer Memorial Award for "Outstanding achievement and sportsmanship" as a baseball player and an academic award for basketball.
He made "All Team" during Kulpmont Baseball Tournament and received many accolades for his grade point average.
Gurba is a member of the Jr. National Honor Society, the basketball and baseball teams and is involved with chorale, chorus, AV club, 1864 Club and is vice president of student council. He participated in the high school musical "Guys and Dolls" and was the voice of Audrey II in this year's production of "LIttle Shop of Horrors."
He is a part of the Cabrini teener team and is looking forward to playing Legion baseball. He is active with his youth group, umpires little league baseball games and enjoys helping where needed at baseball and basketball clinics and also lends a helping hand during summer theater at the career center.
Gurba is a sophomore at Shamokin Area Jr./Sr. High School and is a son of Paul and Traci Gurba, of Coal Township; a grandson of Ron and Phyllis Marcheskie, of Coal Township, Donna Gurba, of Elysburg, the late Paul Gurba Sr., and a great-grandson of Clara Ruths, of Mount Carmel.
