District Attorneys Tony Rosini and Robert Buehner, Jr. announced that the Northumberland-Montour Drug Task Force participated in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
On April 30, collections to surrender expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceuticals, controlled substances and other medications for destruction and proper disposal were held in Northumberland and Montour Counties as part of the DEA's "National Take-Back Prescription Drugs Initiative."
The total amount of pharmaceuticals collected in sites sponsored by the Northumberland-Montour Drug Task force was 160.07 pounds, with Northumberland County collecting 144.5 pounds and Montour County collecting 16.57 pounds of medications.
Rosini and Buehner indicated that they were gratified that the public responded to the collection effort and turned in this large amount of drugs. "We both wish to thank the public for their overwhelming response to our collection efforts. As a result of this collection, this large amount of prescription drugs will not be available for abuse and will not end up polluting our water supply," the District Attorneys concluded.
