KULPMONT - Upcoming events were discussed at a meeting held by the American Legion Auxiliary. Chaplain Jackie Butler said the opening prayer, followed by President Joanne Schaschezk leading the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble. All officers were present.
Schaschezk thanked the women who sold poppies at Wal-Mart. The next sale will be May 22. There is a sign-up sheet for times. It was decided, on motion by Rosalie Ziegler and Butler, to give a monetary gift to the department president, central vice president and district president.
Monetary gifts will also be given to the Mount Carmel Public Library and The Children's Miracle Network. Evelyn Wozney made a motion to approve these donations, seconded by Butler.
A riverboat trip for veterans will be held in June or July. The women will help serve lunch to the veterans. Schaschezk volunteered to drive some women. Since gas is so expensive right now, it was decided that the auxiliary will help out with gas.
The second=grade map coloring contest was held. The winners are Amara Pellowski of Ann Rusinko's class, Trevor Mcdonald of Kerri Spears' class, Lauren Shedleski of Tara Kogut's class and Addie Odorizzi of Stefanie VanNorman's class. The winners will receive a monetary gift. The other participants will receive a treat. Schaschezk thanked Sen. John Gordner for donating the maps.
The auxiliary will be in attendance for the parade on May 30.
The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 24 at the Legion. All members are urged to attend this very important meeting. Nomination of officers will take place, and all offices are open. A pizza party will be held after the meeting since it will be the last meeting until September.
