SHAMOKIN - City police are working to piece together the circumstances of a stabbing Thursday morning on North Second Street.

Emergency responders were dispatched at 9:26 a.m. to the residence of Jody Bower, 29, a tenant of 553 N. Second St., where they found she suffered a stab wound to the stomach, according to Patrolman Raymond Siko II, the investigating officer.

AREA Services and Elysburg Ambulance treated her at the scene before she was transported to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital. Siko said she was subsequently transported to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

A condition update was unavailable from the hospital.

Bower's 11-year-old son was home at the time of the incident.

Details were few while police continued their investigation, and police had no suspects. That said, Siko cautioned against any public concern.

"We're still piecing together what happened," Siko said. "We feel this was not just a random act of violence. There's no need for the public to be alarmed."

Assisting Siko were Shamokin Police Chief Edward Griffiths, city Patrolman Jarrod Scandle and Coal Township Patrolman Matthew Henrich.
