SUNBURY - Northumberland County District Attorney Tony Rosini reported Albert P. Carroll Jr., 47, of Lewisburg, was sentenced Monday to 4 1/4 to 8 1/2 years in a state correctional institution after pleading guilty Dec. 5 to sexual assault and indecent assault.

Carroll also must undergo three years of supervised probation upon release from prison.

Northumberland County Judge William H. Wiest had delayed Carroll's sentencing to obtain the results of an assessment of the defendant by the Sexual Offenders Assessment Board to determine if Carroll was a sexually violent predator. During a hearing Monday prior to sentencing, Wiest declared Carroll to be a sexually violent predator as defined under Megan's Law.

"Not only will he (Carroll) be subject to registration for the rest of his life, he will also be subject to mandatory monthly counseling and community notification upon his release from prison," Rosini said.

Carroll was charged by Trooper Matthew LaForme of state police at Milton with engaging in sexual conduct on multiple occasions with two children between 1996 and 2003 in Delaware Township. The acts include having the children engage in sexual activity with each other. Police said the children were in Carroll's care at the time of the offenses.

The crimes were not reported to police until the children became adults and were no longer in Carroll's care.

The case was prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Ann Targonski.
