Chamber to salute businesses at annual awards dinner in Ranshaw

RANSHAW - The Brush Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce will salute the efforts of local businesses at its annual awards dinner. This year's dinner will be held at the Brady Fire Company social hall Thursday night.

The dinner is sponsored by the Northumberland County Council for the Arts and Humanities, Shamokin, and the floral sponsor is Rock N Block, Coal Township.

Chamber President Joe Daniels-D'Andrea, from Clear Channel Radio, will greet guests, and the emcee is Warren Altomare, from Family Home Medical, the chamber's vice president for the Mount Carmel region and chairman of the economic development and governmental affairs committee.

Award categories include Member of the Year, Community Pride Award, Elected Official of the Year, Small Business of the Year and Large Business of the Year.

Any active member or previously active member can be nominated for an award. Any person or business who has won an award within the past three years is not eligible for an award in 2012. All winners are kept a secret until the night of the awards dinner.

The following member businesses have been nominated:

Member of the Year: Eugene "Gino" Sinopoli, Gigi's; Pam Burns, First National Bank of PA; Steve Minker, community member; Thomas Harlow, Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

Community Pride Award: Central Susquehanna Opportunities Inc., Shamokin; First National Bank of PA, Shamokin; Marty Sinopoli, Gigi's, Coal Township; Lower Anthracite Regional Recreation Committee, Coal Township; Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township; Northwestern Academy, Coal Township; Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School, Coal Township; Shamokin Area School District, and Stephanie Niglio, Kulpmont Borough Council.

Elected Official of the Year: Gene Welsh, Coal Township commissioner; state Senator John Gordner; Mike Woytowich, mayor of Marion Heights; Mount Carmel Borough Council and Mount Carmel Township supervisors; Rick Shoch, Northumberland County commissioner; Vinny Clausi, Northumberland County commissioner, and William Milbrand, Shamokin City Council.

Small Business of the Year: Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, Shamokin; Gigi's, and Rock N Bloc.

Large Business of the Year: Aqua PA Water, Shamokin; Durdach Bros. Inc., Paxinos; Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Coal Township; International Paper, Mount Carmel Township; Knoebels Amusement Resort, Elysburg; Mountain View: A Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township; PPL Corp., and The News-Item, Shamokin.
