STONINGTON - Shamokin Township roadmaster Jon Clemens and assistant roadmaster Jeff Murphy will be rewarded for the extensive work and long hours they put in to procure grant money over the past several years. Supervisors voted Wednesday evening to award each with a bonus of $500 each to thank them for their commitment to the township.

The county began work on a Hazard Mitigation Plan through FEMA. Clemens and Murphy attended seminars and filled out the paperwork necessary to piggyback onto the project. The county, along with the township, needs to show proof of the damage in order to receive funding. The county will do most of the work on the project, Clemens said. It will not cost the township anything except the time for completing the paperwork. Supervisors will receive a copy of the completed plan in summer. They will then review and vote on it.
As for routine roadwork, Clemens said with little snowfall, they have been spending more time trimming trees and keeping the area cleaned up.
Clemens suggested cutting costs by lowering the next salt order from ten tons to eight tons due to the decreased need. The contract requires the township to take at least 60 percent of the order.
Mark Kramer was presenting the fire department's report in George Wolfe's absence, when an emergency call came in and he had to leave the meeting. Supervisor Greg Rachau read the rest of the department report.
Reports were also submitted by secretary/treasurer Stephanie McKinney.
