Line Mountain Water issue not related to previous problems

MANDATA - The water issue at Line Mountain High School that canceled the boys basketball game against Southern Columbia Area had nothing to do with a previous issue of high levels of arsenic and antimonia in 2010.

"Zero connection. It's not even the same well," Superintendent Dave Campbell said Wednesday.

The quantity of hot water being distributed was compromised Jan. 30 and the water was shut off, he said.

However, the flush valves had been running, losing 10,000 gallons of water in four hours. When the water drained, sediment blocked seven valves.

The specific issue of blocked valves is not ongoing, but the amount of hot water in the school has been a problem, he said.

"Do we have enough hot water? Yes. But if you have multiple teens taking showers, no. That's the issue. They have plenty of hot water to wash hands, but when you pay for something, you expect maximum output," Campbell said.

An electrician must be called in to isolate and fix the problem, he said.

The game was rescheduled to Monday and no other events were canceled as a result.

In 2007, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection mandated that the wells at Line Mountain Junior-Senior High School needed to repaired due to contamination.
