COAL TOWNSHIP - Seven senior girls at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School will vie for the title of Homecoming Queen for the 2011-2012 school year as part of this year's homecoming celebration.
The event welcomes back Lourdes alumni with a unique "Winter Wonderland" theme of school spirit. The coronation will take place during halftime of a boys' basketball game - a first for the event in the school's history - starting at approximately 5:15 p.m. Saturday.
The seven young ladies aspiring to be this year's queen took part in a lunchtime election by the student body Tuesday. The candidates are:
Felicia Bartello is the daughter of Jamie and Adrienne Smith, of Coal Township. She is president of student council, a member of the National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, cheerleading squad and the volleyball team.
She also belongs to the French Club, Respect Life Club, the Students Against Destructive Decisions organization, is an officer of the Girls Action League and a CCD teacher aide at Mother Cabrini. Bartello will be escorted by Tyler Holleran.
Rachel Davis is the daughter of Kerry and Judith Davis, of Sunbury. She is vice president of the National Honor Society, a member of the French National Honor Society and co-president of the French Club. Davis is also captain of the soccer team and member of Students Against Destructive Decisions, as well as president of the Respect Life Club and a member of the chorus and Lourdes singers at school.
Davis volunteers in the community for ARC and serves her parish in the youth group and as an altar server at St. Monica's. She will be escorted by Billy Stewart.
Molly Loftus is the daughter of Jack and Sharon Loftus, of Mount Carmel. She is a captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, secretary of student council and treasurer of the National Honor Society. A cheerleader and member of the Pep Club, she also belongs to the Girls Action League, Respect Life Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions.
A member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Loftus will be escorted by Grier Melick.
Elen O'Donnell is the daughter of Ed O'Donnell and Ann Targonski, of Shamokin. She is a captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, treasurer of Student Council, a member of the Girls Action League, the Respect Life Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions.
O'Donnell is an altar server at Mother Cabrini Parish and will be escorted by Michael Menapace.
Caitlyn Persing is the daughter of Carl Persing, of Shamokin, and Michelle Tumolo, of Coal Township. She is a captain of the cheerleading squad and an officer in the Girls Action League and Students Against Destructive Decisions. She belongs to the Spanish National Honor Society, Ski Club and Our Lady of Hope Parish, and will be escorted by Zack Chesney.
Annie Seif is the daughter of Paul and Georgie Seif, of Danville. She is treasurer of the senior class, a captain of the soccer team, a senior officer of Girls Action League and a member of the Respect Life Club and the yearbook committee. She also belongs to the Science Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Lourdes singers and concert choir.
Seif is a member of St. Joseph's Parish, where she serves as an aide for CCD. She will be escorted by Michael Sowash.
Alexandra Singh is the daughter of Dr. Gurdial and Susan Singh, of Elysburg. She is a volleyball and basketball captain, a member of the golf team and of the Mount Carmel Area track and field squad through the co-op program. She is vice president of the student council, secretary of the National Honor Society and belongs to Students Against Destructive Decisions, the Girls Action League, Respect Life and Chorus.
Singh performs annually in the spring musical, volunteers for the American Cancer Society and is a member of Holy Rosary Parish. She will be escorted by Matt Savitski.
