EAST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - A Shamokin woman was taken by ambulance for treatment of moderate injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Kathryn Dewees, 73, of Shamokin, was driving a 2009 Nissan Versa west on Upper Road, State Route 2044, when she failed to negotiate a slight left curve in the roadway. The vehicle traveled off the north berm, struck a small ditch and traveled along the right shoulder of the road before striking a rock and flipping onto its side, according to a state police report filed by Trooper Angela Jankoviak.
Dewees was extricated from her vehicle, which sustained major damage.
Dewees was transported to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital by AREA Services for treatment of moderate injuries. She was transfered to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Dewees was listed in serious condition Friday night.
She was wearing her seat belt and will be charged with traveling on roadways laned for traffic.
Also assisting on the scene was Lavelle Fire Company, East Cameron Fire Department, Mount Carmel Area Rescue Squad, Rescue 38, and Washington Fire Company.
