WILLIAMSPORT - Another former Shamokin mail carrier has been charged by the U.S. Attorney's Office with federal offenses.

Joseph Clemas was charged Friday with unlawfully opening and destroying a piece of first-class mail on June 20.

No other information about the incident was available Saturday.

Robert Hogan, 40, a former Shamokin mail carrier, was previously charged by the U.S. Attorney's Office with a misdemeanor of desertion of mail for not delivering approximately 3,000 circulars that were later found in his home. The offenses occurred from July 1 through at least Sept. 10, 2010.

Hogan pleaded guilty to the charge in July and was sentenced in October in federal court in Williamsport to serve one year probation and pay $282.62 in restitution, a $212 fine and $25 assessment fee.

Hogan's employment with Shamokin Post Office was terminated in October 2010 for an unrelated incident.
