COAL TOWNSHIP - A 24-year-old Shamokin woman was injured Monday afternoon when her car crashed into a parked vehicle in the 1000 block of West Walnut Street.

Coal Township Patrolman Matthew Hashuga, who investigated the 4:15 p.m. crash, reported Shannon Erdman, of 447 S. Harrison St., was driving a blue Dodge Neon east on Walnut Street when her brakes and steering reportedly "locked up," causing her car to veer to the right and crash into the rear of a parked white Buick sedan owned by Norma Moyer, of 1014 W. Walnut St., Coal Township. After being struck by Erdman's auto, Moyer's car was pushed slightly forward into a parked gray Saturn registered to Debbie Williams, of 1708 W. Pine St., Coal Township. Williams' car sustained minor damage.

Police said Erdman suffered a bloody nose from apparently hitting her face against the steering wheel of her car. She also experienced neck pain and was treated at the scene by medical personnel before being transported by AREA Services Ambulance to Shamokin Area Community Hospital. She was the lone occupant in her car.

Hashuga said the accident may have been caused by mechanical failure and remains under investigation.

Erdman's vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage, while Moyer's auto sustained extensive rear-end damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Assisting Hashuga at the scene were Coal Township Patrolmen Edward Purcell and Matthew Henrich, Coal Township firefighters and fire police.
