ELYSBURG - Two men were arraigned Thursday on charges that they participated in the summertime theft of $740 from unlocked vehicles parked in a Ralpho Township housing development.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed in a criminal complaint by Officer Bryon Chowka of Ralpho Township Police, Eric M. Carl made a written statement with Locust Township Police on Aug. 2 alleging that he drove Brian Troup to the Vista Terrace development off Route 54 to perform the thefts overnight July 21.

Troup is accused of stealing $240 from a vehicle owned by Randy Milbrand and $500 from a vehicle owned by Robert Niglio. Both vehicles were parked in the respective owners' driveways on Circle View Drive.

Carl stated that Troup used the money to purchase heroin in Philadelphia, according to the affidavit.

Carl, 27, of 63 Jefferson Road, Elysburg, is charged with theft and two counts of receiving stolen property.

Troup, 27, of 109 Pine St., Orangeville, is charged with three counts of theft and two counts of receiving stolen property.

Troup remained jailed Friday in Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury. Carl was returned to Columbia County Prison, Bloomsburg, on unrelated charges.

Both had been held in Columbia County Prison prior to arraignment.

The charges are filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones, Mount Carmel, where a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
