SUNBURY - For the seventh year, PA CareerLink Northumberland/Snyder/Union Counties at Sunbury, and PA CareerLink Schuylkill County at Pottsville collected food items to send to local service members stationed throughout the world.
This year, nearly 1,000 greeting cards where created by students or signed by members of the community, and 58 packages of food items were sent to local troops stationed in Afghanistan and other global locations.
This was made possible with the support of the people in the local communities helping collect items and sign cards.
In addition to the CareerLink staffs, contributors for this year's collection included RedCo Group, CSO Inc., Sunbury Sub Shop, Cole's Hardware of Sunbury, American Legion Post 201 and 44 of Sunbury, Elks Lodge of Sunbury, Sunbury VFW, Snyder County CAA, Rescue and Friendship hose companies of Sunbury, Southern Columbia Area School District, Mac's Hoagies of Coal Township, Home Plate Friends Helping Friends of Shamokin, Wegman's Distribution Center, Shamokin Mission SDA Church, Allen and Susan Slotterback and Allen and Kathy Slotterback. Also, a special thanks is extended to Shamokin Area School District and its teachers for collecting $325 and shopping for items for the troops; and to Boyd McCullough of Pottsville and Randal Hollenbach of Sunbury, veterans representatives, and John Demsko, program manager, of Sunbury, who organized the collection. All of them are veterans themselves and know how it is to be away from home during the holidays and how the care packages help lift morale.
They ask that everyone takes a moment and remember all those who serve this great country during this holiday season.
