RANSHAW - Laura M. Shuey, 29, of 124 Main St., Ranshaw, was injured Tuesday in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of the off ramp of Route 61 south to Route 901 at 5:08 p.m.

Coal Township police said Shuey stopped her 1999 Plymouth Voyager for a stop sign on the off ramp before proceeding into the intersection and into the path of a 2007 Toyota Prius driven east on Route 901 by Leonard Kufta, 54, of 124 Arizona Drive, Kulpmont, resulting in a collision.

Shuey was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and transported by AREA Services Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where she underwent emergency room treatment. She has since been discharged, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Kufta was not injured.

Both vehicles sustained damage to the point that they couldn't be driven and were towed from the scene.

Shuey was cited for failing to yield to oncoming traffic.

The area of Route 901 and Main Street was closed to traffic for approximately 30 minutes.

Township police were assisted by Shamokin police, Coal Township firefighters and AREA Services personnel.
