Pennsylvania Cystic Fibrosis, Inc.(PACFI) recently recognized Tedd's Landing for raising research money by selling Burke P. Bears for the organization. Since 2004, the restaurant sold 210 bears, which raised $2,520 for cystic fibrosis research.

"We're grateful for their willingness to help our cause," said Bob Derr, secretary and public relations director for PACFI. "PACFI pays about $8 for each bear, including shipping costs, and we sell the bear for $20, so $12 from the sale of each bear goes directly to CF research projects."

PACFI allocates research funds to some of the most progressive cystic fibrosis research in the nation.

Named for son

Burke P. Bear, named after Derr's son, Burke P. Derr who died in 1997 due to cystic fibrosis, has been on a world tour since 1998 through a campaign coordinated by PACFI. The travelling bear has visited 45 states and 22 countries, raising over $400,000 for research projects.

Former state representatives Merle Phillips and Russ Fairchild introduced a House Resolution in 1999, naming Burke P. Bear "the Pennsylvania Ambassador for Love, Peace, Having Fun and Curing Cystic Fibrosis." Due to his efforts raising research funds and touching thousands of lives worldwide, Burke P. Bear was simply nicknamed the Ambassador of Love.
