SHAMOKIN - Two competitors had perfect scores in week 10 of The News-Item's Football Contest, prompting officials to use a random drawing to determine the top two finishers.
Jen Zimmerman, of 860 W. Wood St., Coal Township, and Carlene Taylor, of 223 W. Sunbury St., Shamokin, both predicted 10 out of 10 selections correctly, and both picked 52 points as the top score of the week, Kutztown University scored 52 points in its 52-14 win over Bloomsburg University.
As a result of the drawing, Zimmerman was awarded first place and a $50 gift certificate from the participating businesses, while Taylor received a $25 gift certificate for second place.
The two winners were among six competitors who had perfect scores. Barbara Scott, of 125 Academy St., Shamokin won third place with a points guess of 54 points, winning a $15 gift certificate.
The three winners and the other three competitors with 10 out of 10 correct selections, Daniel L. Deromedi, of Frackville, "Bado" Darrup, of Mount Carmel, and George Young, of Coal Township, will be entered into the drawing for the $200 grand prize.
