Food pantry distribution Saturday
ATLAS - The Mount Carmel Township Food Pantry will hold its monthly distribution from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday for residents in Atlas, Diamondtown, Strong, Locust Gap, Connorsville, Dooleyville and Beaverdale who have signed up.
Outstanding person banquet set
SHAMOKIN - Shamokin Area Democratic Women will honor its "Outstanding Person of 2011" from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Shamokin Knights of Columbus social room, Independence and Rock streets.
Tickets are $20 and can be reserved by calling President Peggy Ferrari at 648-4724.
Tickets on sale for 'White Christmas'
SHAMOKIN - Tickets are currently on sale for the production of "White Christmas" set to be performed at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, and at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at the Northumberland County Career and Arts Center auditorium. The tickets are $5 each and are available at Beverly's Flower Shop and Shuey Jewelers.
Community service to meet Saturday
COAL TOWNSHIP - Those who participate in a community service project organized by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III are asked to meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Coal Bowl.
Students to collect food at parade
SHAMOKIN - Members of Shamokin Area High School's Interact Club will collect canned goods during Wednesday's Halloween parade to donate to Manna for the Many, the Shamokin area food pantry.
Interact is a youth organization affiliated with Rotary International. Advisers at Shamokin Area are Krista Breeding and Ruth Lizardi.
Shamokin Rotary club will have a float in the parade, which will also serve as a transport for the collected goods. At the end of the parade, a presentation will be made to Pastor Betty Ford, representing Manna for the Many.
The Rotary's float will feature a large turkey as it promotes a new event, the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5k run and walk. More details will be published in future editions of The News-Item.
