Blood drive in Shamokin Tuesday

SHAMOKIN - Grace Lutheran Church, West Chestnut Street, will host the American Red Cross Bloodmobile from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the fellowship hall of the church.

The need for blood has become critical. The recent flooding and disasters have not only increased the need, but blood supplies are low because many scheduled Bloodmobile visits had to be canceled because sites suffered damage in the flooding.

Anyone who is 17 years of age or older, weighs at least 110 pounds, is in reasonably good health and has not given blood for 56 days is eligible. Each pint donated can help several people.

Mayor, council members view creek wall

MOUNT CARMEL - Borough Mayor J. Kevin Jones reported that he and borough council members Leroy Moser, Robert Barrett, Joe Lapotsky and Robert Shirmer did a walking tour Sunday of the Butternut Creek wall, identifying several problems and discussing solutions.

Also, the Mount Carmel Street Department would like to inform residents that the street sweeper can pick up more leaves if the leaves are spread in the middle of the parking place instead of gathered in large piles.
