LAVELLE - Butler Township police said interviews were planned Monday as part of an ongoing investigation into the Friday night robbery of a local beer distributor.
Patrolman Raymond Horan said a man walked through an unlocked front door at The Beer Distributing Co., 2861 Fairgrounds Road, at 8:10 p.m. and took the cash drawer from a register that was placed on the counter by an employee.
At the time of the robbery, Horan said the business was closed for the day and that police are trying to determine why the employee inside did not lock the door as procedure requires.
"Something does not add up," Horan said Monday, adding that it is hoped the interviews will shed light as to why the door was left open.
After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, Horan said, the man walked out of the store and left the area. Although a dark-colored pickup truck or SUV was seen parked across the street, it is not known if the robber drove off or fled on foot, the officer said.
Horan said witnesses described the man as being about 6 feet tall and 160 pounds with a thin build. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and had a bandana covering his face.
Horan said that police are asking anyone with information to call them at 875-4131, or through the Schuylkill County Communications Center at 462-1991.
All information received will remain confidential.
