MOUNT CARMEL - Knights of Columbus Bishop Lawrence F. Schott Council 628 held a first degree ceremony Aug. 14.
Fourteen new Knights from three councils were inducted into the world's largest Catholic lay organization. Initiated were Carl Ecker, Kyle Grybos and Patrick Grybos from Mount Carmel Council 628; Fred Markle, Doug Madden, Paul Petrovich, Kevin Reber and Arthur Rovito, Cardinal Mindszenty Council 458, Shamokin, and Christopher Brokus, Scott Evert, Gregory Klebon, John Kovnas, Craig Roadarmel and Justin Schoch, Father Slough Council 14161, Elysburg.
Dignitaries in attendance were James Bailoni, master of Pennsylvania Central District of the Fourth Degree; David Shinskie, District 54 deputy and grand knight of Kulpmont Council 4281; David Berezovske, grand knight of Council 628; Victor Lisiewski, grand knight of Council 14161; Berni Biegeleisen, field agent, and the Rev. Francis Karwacki, of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
The degree team was led by George Kroutch, and the choir was under the direction of Michael Skopatz.
Men 18 years of age and older who are practicing Catholics in union with the Holy See are eligible to join the Knights. Those interested in becoming members can contact the council in their area.
