CATAWISSA RR - The Southern Columbia Area School Board approved the next step for the district's multimillion-dollar project despite the decision not being unanimous.
Directors Dave Stellfox and Jennifer Oiler-Shoup made and seconded the motion to move forward at Monday night's meeting. It passed 6-2 with Directors Eric Stahley and Charlie Porter voting against the motion.
While there was little discussion on the question, both Stahley and Porter have previously voted against these steps concerning the building project due to not being pleased with the process.
The plan is a procedural step in the building project, said Business Manager Dan Rodgers.
It will be submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education to inform them that the district's new bond issue for the project and refinancing of existing debt is subject to reimbursement, he explained.
In other business:
- Stahley informed the board that the Columbia-Montour Area Vocational Technical School Joint Operating Committee will be reviewing its budget to accommodate the massive cuts in the school district's subsidies.
- The board accepted the retirement of Suellen Adams from the position of elementary head cook effective June 8, 2011. She has been with the district since August 1989.
- The board approved the 2011-12 Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit general operating budget in the amount of $1,500,249.
