CLEVELAND TOWNSHIP - David Jeffrey, 63, of Pineswamp Road, Cleveland Township, was transported by Life Flight to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown after experiencing burns on his legs from a lawn mower fire at his 100-acre farm, Broken Wheel Bison Ranch, corner of Center School Road and Middle Road, at approximately 5 p.m. Thursday.
His wife, Kay Jeffrey, said he was putting gas in a yellow-and-white Cub Cadet lawn tractor when it sparked, catching the vehicle and Jeffrey on fire.
Valley Chemical Fire Chief Mark Sharrow said a volunteer put out the fire with an extinguisher, and by the time the trucks arrived, it was smoldering. The barn and machine shed were also in danger of catching fire.
In addition to the Numidia Fire Company, Chief Allen Breach and Patrolman Jarrod Rider of Locust Township Police Department and Elysburg Ambulance were at the scene.
