TREVORTON - For several weeks, the members of Zerbe Township have been getting ready for Trevorton Heritage Days, set for Aug. 20 and 21. A parade will be held at noon Saturday, and food stands, musical entertainment, as well as a display of historical photographs and other memorabilia are just some of what's in store.
There will also be trolley rides, a bonfire and several old-fashioned games providing today's children a taste of how they did things "back in the old days."
Supervisors are seeking any old photos or other historical artifacts members of the community may have to lend out. More information can be found on the Trevorton Heritage Days Facebook page.
Chairman Michael Schwartz thanked all who have worked on this and other events to "bring the community back together again."
Night Out a success
Police Chief Robert M. John expressed his gratitude to Kandie Rebuck for the work she did to make National Night Out a success. The event, which was held Aug. 2, raised $1,132. Schwartz offered his thanks as well.
In other business
Bids for the Tenth Street Bridge project will be opened at a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16.
Zerbe Township Recreation Committee received a $20,000 grant from the Degenstein Foundation to be used specifically for resurfacing the tennis courts and meeting American Disability Act requirements. An interest-bearing account will be opened under the name Tennis Court Upgrade.
Supervisors welcomed Ron Lesher as the township's newly appointed zone officer.
Tot Lot is close to completion. All equipment that can be pre-assembled is ready to be installed in the playground.
The Coal Hill problem was briefly addressed with Schwartz encouraging the public to continue to call Reading Anthracite to voice their opinions.
Solicitor's reports were presented by James Bathgate in Roger Weist's absence. Minutes and treasurers reports were also presented.
