DANVILLE - Geisinger HealthSouth recently recognized eight Community Champions at an event held at noon Wednesday during National Rehabilitation Week (Sept. 20-26).
Started six years ago, the Community Champion designation allows Geisinger HealthSouth to bring attention to the value of both acute inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, the inspirational stories of the patients, and the great work of the employees of the organization.
Nominees had to have experienced a debilitating illness or injury over the past two years and through physical rehabilitation, made great strides in their recovery, among other criteria.
"In recent years we have selected one recipient from many nominations received," said Lorie Dillon, chief executive officer. "This year, as we read through the nominations, it was clear that these eight people were all extraordinarily worthy of recognition and we couldn't choose just one. We congratulate all of this year's Champions and wish them the best in their continued recovery."
The 2015 recipients include:

Craig Fetterman - Shamokin.
Kristi Gelnett - Middleburg.
Tricia Hoffman - Elysburg.
Lisa Ledda - Lewisburg.
Duane Mausteller - Bloomsburg.
Alicia Skeath - Wapwallopen.
Cory Thompson - Shamokin.
