National Night Out set for Tuesday
SHAMOKIN - Shamokin and Mount Carmel police departments will once again participate in the 28th annual National Night Out.
Festivities in Shamokin will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Lawton Shroyer Memorial Swimming Pool on North Rock Street.
Activities in Mount Carmel will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Mount Carmel Town Park.
Many activities are planned for the event in both communities including free admission to the pool in Shamokin, emergency equipment displays, informational booths, a disc jockey, free food and games for all ages. There also will be prize drawings and gift certificates from local merchants.
National Night Out was established to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized to fight crime.
For more information or to make a donation to the event, call Shamokin Police Chief Edward Griffiths or Patrolman Raymond Siko II at 648-5708, or Jim Darrup, treasurer for Mount Carmel Community Watch, at 339-4948.
