Bishop, Locust Gap native, celebrates Mass at Our Lady

MOUNT CARMEL - "It is good to be home."

Those were the words of Bishop William Waltersheid, a native of Locust Gap and the current auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, who celebrated the 8:30 a.m. Mass Sunday at Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

In his homily, he said he paid a visit to St. Joseph's Cemetery in Locust Gap to pray for and remember his deceased relatives and friends. He said he appreciated all the good values the coal region instilled in him, and said it is important always to remember one's roots.

Waltersheid spoke of the good seed that became the good wheat in the parable Jesus gave in Matthew's Gospel. He indicated that those good seeds are the gospel values that are planted in youth.

Waltersheid greeted all the parishioners of the parish and was delighted to see many of his neighbors, cousins and friends.
