STONINGTON - Shamokin Township supervisors voted Wednesday night to insure the traffic light at Routes 61 and 487 because of several incidents that have occured there. Roadmaster Jon Clemens and township insurance agent Tony Rosini recently discussed the issue, and came up with a policy that would cover up to $150,000 in damages from lightning, accidents and other liability issues. Clemens said Rosini promised the premium will be less than $500 a year, but an exact quote has yet to be determined.
Chairman Tom Carl and supervisors John Klinger and Greg Rachau voted to give Clemens the authority to move ahead on purchasing the insurance.
Clemens also presented updates on several road projects, and reported that the cost of the COSTARS salt contract increased slightly.
Clemens informed supervisors that the cinder shed is in need of inexpensive repair. Supervisors gave Clemens authority to accept telephone bids and to approve a company to complete the work.
Supervisor John Klinger told the board that the Adams Park Road project is in its construction stage. After the placement of insulated pipe and a pump, hookups can begin.
Secretary/Treasurer Stephanie McKinney requested signatures from all supervisors on a resolution for the Adams Park Road project bank account. The account will borrow from the general fund, which residents will pay back over a period of five years. Residents previously agreed to the plan.
Engineer Ken Young asked for permission to set up the account for PPL billing for the Adams Park Road project. Supervisors granted him the authority. Bills will be sent to McKinney.
George Wolfe presented a three-month report from the fire department, which was accepted by the board.
Minutes and treasurer's reports were presented and accepted. All supervisors were present and voted on all motions.
