Senate passes Gordner bill

HARRISBURG - The Senate passed legislation authored by Sen. John R. Gordner that will provide important updates to the 30-year-old law that governs the practice of speech language and hearing treatment in Pennsylvania. Senate Bill 137 now moves to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Senate Bill 137 is the result of several years of discussion with the profession, state regulators and consumer groups. The legislation also reforms the State Board of Examiners in Speech-Language and Hearing, resulting in savings to the Commonwealth.

Bloomsburg University is one of three institutions of higher education that offers a doctorate in audiology program. The others are the University of Pittsburgh and Salus University in Elkins Park.

Parenting is the topic at Lifetree Cafe

The challenges and rewards of parenting will be explored will be discussed at Lifetree Cafe from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elysburg Presbyterian Church, 320 W. Valley Ave.

The program, titled "Imperfect Parents: Making Peace and Moving On," features a screening of "And What Remains," an award-winning short film.

"The film follows a father as he considers the lessons he learned from his father and the lessons he's teaching his son," says Lifetree representative Craig Cable. Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Snacks and beverages are available.
