Recycling center, C.T. offices closed
COAL TOWNSHIP - The Coal Township Recycling Center will be closed Saturday, and all Coal Township municipal offices will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day.
Ashland lists Memorial Day rites
ASHLAND - The annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony will be held Monday, with the parade starting at 11 a.m. from Memorial Field.
The parade, which will include veterans from American Legion Bernard J. Dolan Post 434 and Veterans of Foreign War O'Donnell-Martin-Baldino Post 7654, North Schuylkill High School Marching Band, Little League, Boy Scouts, antique vehicles and fire apparatus from Ashland and Fountain Springs, will move east along Centre Street, stopping at the Mother's Memorial for the program.
Ashland Fire Chief Philip Groody will be master of ceremonies and Thomas Dando Sr. will be the guest speaker. Ashland's Bryel Frasch, this year's winner of Schuylkill County Jr. Idol III, will sing the national anthem.
At 7:30 a.m., veterans will travel to cemeteries in Ashland and Fountain Springs for military honors, and stop at the veterans memorials in Locust Dale and Lavelle for short ceremonies.
After the program in Ashland, a meal will be served to the veterans at the VFW post.
Speakers announced for workshop
LEWISBURG - Christopher Flynn, a business development specialist with the Sustainable Energy Fund (SEF), and Stacy Richards, director of SEDA-COG's Energy Resource Center (ERC), are the main speakers at a seminar on financing options for solar energy projects, "Understanding Your Solar Financing Options," scheduled from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Country Cupboard Restaurant in Lewisburg. The seminar is sponsored by the ERC.
It will focus specifically on solar photovoltaic (PV) systems financing options for public and private facility owners, and is targeted to public and private sector business managers, municipal officials and staff, school district and university representatives, non-profit organizations, solar contractors and installers, and all others with an interest in solar PV projects. Registration is $25 and includes breakfast.
