SHAMOKIN - A forecast for possible heavy thunderstorms again this evening has prompted the Mudflaps to cancel their concert planned for 8 to 10 p.m. as part of the Anthracite Heritage Festival of the Arts.
The festival parade is still scheduled for 6 p.m.
Also, organizers have decided to change the fireworks display scheduled for 10 p.m. today to 9:30 p.m. Saturday. They will be shot off the Glenn Burn culm bank.
The luminary service scheduled for tonight has also been canceled. A list of luminaries will be published next week in The News-Item.
Thursday night, thunderstorms produced heavy rain, wind and large hail - enough to shovel - in the greater Shamokin area, and the forecast is similar for this afternoon and evening, while the threat of rain lessens by Saturday.
Read further details and see coverage of tonight's parade in Saturday's print and online editions of The News-Item.
