Report card distribution Thursday

COAL TOWNSHIP - Report cards will be distributed Thursday to students of Shamokin Area Middle/High School.

Immigration economist to speak

BLOOMSBURG - A Harvard University professor called "America's leading immigration economist" by Business Week and The Wall Street Journal will speak at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Bloomsburg University's Kehr Union multipurpose rooms.

George J. Borjas, professor of economics and social policy at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government, will discuss "Immigration and Economics." The lecture is free and open to the public.

Borjas has published more than 125 articles in books and scholarly journals. A cover story in the New York Times Magazine focused on his work and called him "the pre-eminent scholar in his field." He has appeared on CNN's "Lou Dobbs Tonight," the PBS "NewsHour" with Jim Lehrer, the nightly news shows of CBS and NBC, Fox News' "O'Reilly Factor" and "Fox and Friends," and Ben Wattenberg's "Think Tank." Borjas testified before congressional committees and served as a consultant to the California attorney general, World Bank and law firms engaged in litigation involving employment and wage-setting in labor markets.

Borjas was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1950, and migrated to the United States in 1962.
