2 resurfacing projects to start

MONTOURSVILLE - A resurfacing project on two sections of Route 147 and one section of Snydertown Road in Sunbury is scheduled to start just after the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Prime contractor Jay Fulkroad & Sons, Inc. will begin work May 31 on the Front Street section of Route 147 between Church Street and the intersection with Shikellamy Avenue. This section is approximately 1.5 miles in length.

At the start, the contractor will restrict traffic to a single lane in the work zone from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with flaggers alternating traffic flow. Any wide loads in excess of 12 feet will be restricted from traveling through the work zone.

Work will include roadway base repairs, milling, resurfacing, ADA-compliant curb ramps, paved shoulders and new pavement markings. The contractor will start with base repairs and ADA-compliant curb ramps during daylight hours. Milling and resurfacing will take place during nighttime hours several weeks into the project.

Following the work on the first section of Route 147, the contractor will move to SR 4012 (Snydertown Road) between Route 61 (Market Street) and Reagan Street, about four-tenths of a mile in length.

Then the work zone will move to a half-mile section of Route 147 just south of Sunbury in Upper Augusta Township in the vicinity of the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks.

This project will cost $1,333,000 and is scheduled for completion by Sept. 7.
