MOUNT CARMEL - Mount Carmel Area will be hosting its first annual Bark for Life Sunday at Mount Carmel Town Park. The fundraiser is sponsored by The American Cancer Society and honors the care-giving qualities of canines to their companions.
Registration is from noon to 2 p.m., followed by the walk. Registration is $10 per dog and includes a Bark For Life bandana and a "doggie" bag. Participants are encouraged to get donations for their dog. Anyone that raises $100 will receive a Bark For Life T-shirt.
The walk will begin with a blessing of the dogs by the Rev. Rose Marquardt.
Sponsors for the event include Clippen Dales, Kulpmont, and Monica's Heart Greyhound Rescue. Music will be provided by "To-Shea Sound," of Frackville.
Painted paw prints and photos will be taken to prepare a "Cutest Pet Contest" at the Relay for Life at Mount Carmel, which will be held at 2 p.m. June 10 at the Silver Dome. Everyone is encouraged to come out to the relay and vote for the cutest pet.
Teams from the Relay for Life of Mount Carmel will have stands set up to sell food and ice-cream, along with fundraisers for the event.
Amanda Miller will be drawing caricatures of people to look like their pets.
There also will be four contests for the dogs, including Musical Sit, Cutest Costume, Largest Dog and Smallest Dog.
