HERNDON - Two crashes that occurred within minutes of each other Friday in the lower end of the county caused injuries to three people.

Emergency personnel were dispatched at noon to Herndon Bypass Road, Jackson Township, near Stomp Lane and about 1 mile east of Route 147 after a 2000 Hyundai Tiburon struck a dirt embankment and rolled onto its roof.

The driver, Elijah J. Ilgenfritz, 18, of Dornsife, was driving west when he lost control of the car, according to state police at Stonington.

Ilgenfritz and a passenger, Jedidiah Ilgenfritz, 17, also of Dornsife, were each wearing seat belts and were both injured, though the severity of their injuries was unknown, troopers said.

Elijah Ilgenfritz was cited for a speeding violation.

Less than five miles north on Route 147 in Lower Augusta Township at 12:04 p.m., Katelynn M. Straub, 21, of Dornsife, lost control of a northbound 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse while rounding a left curve in the road, troopers said.

The vehicle struck a guide rail and continued over an embankment before coming to rest in a small stream bed.

Straub was transported to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. The severity of her injuries are unknown.

She was cited for driving outside of her lane of travel.
