Aber: "Instead of going back and charging everybody (for more health insurance contribution), they do something with the new hires. Change it for the new people. Change it going forward."
Clausi: "People of Northumberland County were getting cheated every day, sometimes intentionally and sometimes unintentionally, because people didn't care. All of the uproar was part of the process that was necessary to do what was right. I was wrong the way I handled some things, but if that's what it took, so be it."
Curran: "I've heard of people that left the county and are bitter; well, why are they bitter? There are some that have changed parties in order to keep their jobs. That shouldn't be. Party should not play a part in any of it.
Horvath: "As a Tea Party member, I support a small, limited government. I do not believe personal choice should be mandated by government. I don't want the government telling me what kind of light bulb I should use or how much salt or sugar we should be consuming."
Lovett: "I decided to run after reading Clausi said the benefits and wages of the county workers were killing the county's budget. That shocked me because I always thought Democrats were for labor and collective bargaining. It just seemed odd that a Democrat was stating that."
Phillips: "It was not my original intention to run. But I got in, and I got involved. I felt like I could make a difference in a short period of time. I saw what the two county commissioners were doing, and I wanted to be part of it. There is a future for Northumberland County if we do things right."
Sawicki: "I saw the availability of the Elks building as an opportunity. I was trying to develop options at the least cost to the taxpayers. As far as the prison is concerned, you can always farm out prisoners or go to privatization. But what can you do with the courthouse? By law, the county must own the courthouse."
Schiccatano: "I think you're born and grow up with the ability to act correctly at public meetings, to act correctly when you go to Wal-Mart and shop. They don't make you sign papers that you're not going to steal. I don't think you need to sign papers when you conduct a public meeting."
Shoch: "It's not going to be easy and you're not going to make everyone happy, but at least if they've had a seat at the table, you can make it more palatable." (About discussions with department heads on making cuts.)
Turlis: "There needs to be a better working relationship between administrators and employees (in the county), because the current working environment is hostile. I believe if employees have a problem, they should address it with their immediate supervisor first and then go to the commissioners if they aren't satisfied."
Wary: "Cutting spending is not the answer because you can only cut so much. You need to be aggressive in bringing more money in. Economic development is all about bringing in more outside dollars."
