Mt. Carmel man wins week 11 of News-Item's Football Contest

SHAMOKIN - Robert J. Poplaski, of 316 N. Hickory St., Mount Carmel, was the winner of week 11 of The News-Item Football Contest. He was the only contestant who correctly picked 11 out of 12 games in this week's slate.

For winning first place, Poplaski will receive a $50 gift certificate for any of the contest's participating sponsors.

There were 45 entrants who correctly picked 10 out of 12 games this week, but Jim Weissinger Jr., of 500 S. Hickory St., Mount Carmel, had the closest guess of the most points scored in a single game, giving him second place and a $25 gift certificate. Weissinger guessed 56 points while the actual score was 55 points by the Baltimore Ravens in their 55-20 win over Oakland.

The next closest score was 53 points, guessed by Nick Ford, of 926 E. Dewart St., Shamokin, who was awarded third place and a $15 gift certificate.

The three winners and the other 43 entrants with 10 out of 12 games correct will be entered into the grand prize drawing for $200 cash at the end of the contest.

Giants 13; UCLA 44, Washington State 36; Baltimore 55, Oakland 20; Notre Dame 21, Boston College 6; Seattle 28, N.Y. Jets 7; LSU 37, Mississippi State 17; Dallas 38, Philadelphia 23.
