Earns grand champion title

IRISH VALLEY - Amanda Cavanaugh, of Irish Valley, was named grand champion hunter equitation alumni rider on the flat and reserve champion hunter equitation alumni rider over 2 feet-3 inches, at the first annual Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Alumni Tournament of Champions, held July 29 at the Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne.

The event brought together collegiate alumni riders from across the eastern U.S. for competition of prestigious titles.

Cavanaugh, who graduated in May from Susquehanna University with a degree in business administration, with an emphasis in marketing and advertising, competed against alumni riders from Lebanon Valley College, Arcadia University, Rutgers University, Virginia Tech, University of Connecticut, Washington College, West Chester University, Kutztown University, Dartmouth, University of Scranton, Lehigh University, Delaware Valley College and Wilson College.

As an undergraduate student at Susquehanna, Cavanaugh was co-captain of the Susquehanna University equestrian team and competed at IHSA shows in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Cavanaugh is employed at the Tack Room Inc., Vicksburg, as a full-time marketing and advertising coordinator. She also joins the Hershey Company in Hershey as a retail sales representative in September.

She continues to ride and train hunter horses with her collegiate coach, Jan Phillips, at Summer Breeze Stables in Milton.
