SASB committee to meet

COAL TOWNSHIP - The Shamokin Area School Board Buildings and Grounds Committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the board conference room at the Shamokin Area Middle/High School.

Times clarified for Vic and Irvin

SHAMOKIN - Vic Boris and Irvin Liachowitz will perform a half-hour of piano duets from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the first Anthracite Idol contest.

The program will be held at the Northumberland County Council for the Arts Auditorium at Eighth and Arch streets. Doors to the auditorium open at 5 p.m.

An earlier report incorrectly stated that Boris and Liachowitz would perform at 5 p.m.

National Police Memorial Week

SHAMOKIN - Chief of Police Edward Griffiths said his department is giving out blue ribbons to motorists to attach to their antennas to show support for police officers who have died in the line of duty in commemoration of National Police Memorial Week being celebrated May 9 to May 15.

Griffiths said motorists can pick up their ribbons at Shamokin Police Station at 511 N. Franklin St.

Sweeper coming to Atlas

ATLAS - Mount Carmel Township Board of Supervisors requests that residents of Atlas remove their vehicles from the south or even-numbered sides of West Saylor, East Saylor and West Girard streets and Columbia Avenue to make way for the street sweeper Monday night into Tuesday.
