PILLOW - Two Trevorton men were flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville following a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Route 225 and Mahantongo Creek Road that also resulted in four others being injured.
The accident site, near the Dauphin County line in Lower Mahanoy Township, has been the scene of several serious crashes over the years.
State police at Stonington reported Lewis Ebersole, 55, of Trevorton, who was driving a van, and one of his passengers, Gene Bohner, 60, also of Trevorton, were extricated from the wreckage and flown by Life Flight helicopter to Geisinger, where they underwent
emergency room treatment. Ebersole was listed in serious condition Sunday night. Bohner was admitted in fair condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Klein W. Gross, 30, of Bloomsburg, the driver of the other vehicle, escaped injury. His three passengers, Brenda M. Gross, 33, a 9-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl, all of Bloomsburg, suffered minor injuries and underwent emergency room treatment at Geisinger before being released. Walter "Skip" Dailey, 65, of Elysburg, a passenger in Ebersole's van, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Sunbury Community Hospital, where he underwent emergency room treatment before being released.
State police said Ebersole was traveling north on Route 225 at noon when his vehicle was struck in the driver's side passenger door by Gross' pickup truck. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed from the scene by Prodigal Garage.
Gross told police he failed to see a stop sign at the intersection and drove through it. He will be cited for a stop sign violation, police said.
An investigation into the crash is continuing.
For southbound motorists, there's a slight lefthand curve in the highway just before it intersects with Mahantongo Creek Road. Those driving on Mahantongo Creek Road also have a curve as they approach the intersection, and a slight uphill grade.
