COAL TOWNSHIP - A police pursuit Saturday morning ended with the driver crashing his vehicle and fleeing the scene.
According to a public information release report from state police at Stonington, the pursuit began at 3:15 a.m. and reached speeds of around 70 mph in the Shamokin and Coal Township area. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into a tree off a dirt road near the Fairview Gun Club.
The report did not list the driver of the vehicle or if there were any passengers.
An ambulance from AREA Services responded in a non-emergency fashion to the crash site.
Shamokin and Coal Township police assisted at the scene. Officers were seen shining flashlights on the club property and around the crash site. Shortly after, a Jeep was placed on a flatbed and towed from the scene.
Police said the investigation continues.
