THARPTOWN - A 30-year-old Shamokin man was killed as a result of a motorcycle crash Tuesday afternoon along Route 61 near Brewery Curve, just north of this Coal Township village.
Patrolman Joshua Wynn, who investigated the 4:06 p.m. accident, reported Perry Minor Jr. was pronounced dead at Shamokin Area Community Hospital by Northumberland County Coroner James F. Kelley. Kelley attributed his cause of death to multiple blunt force trauma and the manner of death as accidental.
Wynn reported Minor was driving a motorcycle north on Route 61 when he crossed the southbound lanes for an unknown reason. The cycle then struck a guard rail. Police said Minor was ejected from the motorcycle, which slid under the guard rail.
The motorcycle was demolished in the accident.
Traffic was delayed on the busy highway for approximately three hours.
An investigation into the crash is continuing.
Assisting Wynn at the scene were Coal Township Patrolmen Matthew Hashuga and Terry Ketchem, Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II, Northumberland County Emergency Management Agency personnel, Coal Township firefighters and AREA Services medical personnel.
