SHAMOKIN - Warmer temperatures reaching upwards of 50 to 60 degrees may have brought a temporary lull in the winter weather, but it's back again as the area received another 3 inches of white stuff Sunday night.
The storm Sunday into Monday was the 15th winter storm of note in the region this winter.
The highest accumulation has been about 4 to 6 inches on Dec. 6, but the frequency of the storms has wreaked havoc on local school schedules.
While many area schools should have been scheduled to be closed for President's Day, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional, Mount Carmel Area, Shamokin Area and Line Mountain School Districts were supposed to be open Monday for a snow make-up day.
All were closed due to the inclement weather, adding another snow day to the list.
The website for the Line Mountain School District said that the next snow make-up day is going to be Friday, May 6, and the next one for the Shamkoin Area School District is listed as April 21 on the district calendar.
You may have cleared your driveway yesterday, but the snow isn't expected to have stopped yet, as the National Weather Service said that as of this morning, another 1 to 3 inches is likely to have fallen.
For the rest of the day, it is expected to be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 25, and a north wind between 3 and 6 mph.
Tonight will be clear, with temperatures dropping to a low around 7. There will also be a north wind around 5 mph then becoming calm.
The National Weather Service forecasts that the rest of the week will be relatively calm with temperatures ranging from the high 30s to low 40s, but dropping into the 20s at night. There is a chance of rain Thursday and Thursday night and snow and rain are likely on Saturday night.
