COAL TOWNSHIP - Rachel M. Davis has been named the valedictorian of the Class of 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School in an announcement Monday. Elizabeth R. Korbich earned salutatorian honors.
The remaining top five students in the senior class are Annie Stewart, third; Lauryn Leach, fourth, and Molly Lotfus, fifth.
Valedictorian
Davis is a daughter of Kerry and Judy Davis, of 125 E. Haas Manor Road, Sunbury, and a granddaughter of Frank Chesney, of Kulpmont, and the late Theresa Chesney, Preston (Lin) and Meg Davis, of Milton.
She is a member of St. Monica Parish, where she was an altar server and lector and was involved in the parish youth group. She plans to attend Misericordia University in the fall to major in speech and language pathology.
In school, she served as co-captain of varsity soccer, vice president of the National Honor Society, president of Respect Life Club, co-president of the French Club, and was a member of French National Honor Society, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and GAL. She participated in concert choir and was a student ambassador.
In the community, she volunteered at Central Susquehanna Valley Arc.
She is employed at the Sunbury YMCA-Kidspace and fixed service at Knoebels Amusement Resort.
Salutatorian
Korbich is a daughter of Michelle and Greg Korbich, of 614 Catawissa Ave., Sunbury, and a granddaughter of Jane Korbich and Bonnie Kaufman.
She is a member of St. Monica Parish, where she was an altar server and a religious education aide and was involved in youth group.
She plans to attend Misericordia University.
In school, she was a member of the Respect Life Club, SADD, French Club, National Honor Society, French National Honor Society and Mount Carmel varsity swim team.
In the community, she was involved in the Sunbury/Northumberland summer swim team.
She is employed as a childcare worker at the Sunbury YMCA.
Annie Stewart
Stewart is a daughter of Bill and Karen Stewart, of 2361 Mile Post Road, Sunbury, and a granddaughter of the late Richard and Verna Kenner and William H. Stewart Sr. and the late Ellen Ondich Stewart.
She is a member of St. Monica Parish, where she was an alter server and participated in the youth group and Mount Pleasant Youth Group and March for Life.
She plans to attend Misericordia University to become a physical therapist.
In school, she was a member of the National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, French Club, Respect Life Club, SADD and varsity soccer team. She also participated in chorus, Lourdes Singers and musical.
In the community, she was a member of the Indian Hills 4H Club, and volunteered at Little Eddy Griffith's pig roast.
She is employed at Dairy Queen, Selinsgrove.
Lauryn Leach
Leach is a daughter of John and Linda Leach, of 1826 Irish Valley Road, Paxinos, and a granddaughter of Thomas and JoAnn Mudry and John and Susan Leach.
She is a member of the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, where she was involved in Friday Lenten dinners, Christmas parties for young children and small gatherings.
She plans to attend Shenandoah University, where she will major in kinesiology and pre-physical therapy.
In school, she was chief editor of the yearbook, secretary of the Respect Life Club, president of the SADD and captain of the varsity girls soccer and basketball teams. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, student council, Pep Club and Powder Puff. She was also involved in concert choir.
In the community, she was a team captain and committee member for Relay for Life, and participated in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and Shamokin Youth Soccer Organization.
She is employed at the Elysburg Gun Club.
Molly Loftus
Loftus is a daughter of Sharon and Jack Loftus, of 225 S. Maple St., Mount Carmel, and a granddaughter of Rosemarie Zvirblis and the late John Zvirblis.
She is a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and plans to attend the University of Scranton to major in biology. In school, she participated in volleyball, basketball and cheerleading, and was a member of National Honor Society, Respect Life Club, GAL, DEP Club, student council and SADD.
