Mount Carmel and Sunbury have recently added light pole banners that salute veterans from their communities.
In Mount Carmel, the 35 banners are hanging along Oak Street and parts of Market and Third streets. They include the name and rank of the veteran and either the war in which they served or the branch of service . They will remain up until June, when they will be replaced with 150th anniversary banners. The veteran banners will be placed again next year.
In Sunbury, the Northumberland County Hometown Veterans Banners program was unveiled this spring. The banners are hanging on light posts on Market Street and around Cameron Park and include the soldier's name, era and branch of service, photo, hometown and sponsor name.
