ELYSBURG - "Hoots" and "hollers" were the reactions of Shamokin Pregnancy Care Center staff members when executive director Margie Conrad announced the amount of money raised from Saturday's Walk for Life at Knoebels Amusement Resort.

Just over $25,000 was collected from registration fees and donations, which will be used for services at the center, including parenting classes, adoption counseling and education on abortion.

"Just look around you. (The crowd is) double of what we thought would be here," Conrad told 300-plus walkers before the event.

Participants traveled a three-mile course, beginning at pavilion U in the main parking lot, looping through the campground, and ending back at the pavilion.

Walkers sought pledges of $15, $25, $50 or $100 before participating, and had the option of donating an additional $25 or more to either honor or remember their mothers.

In February, the center relocated from Second Street in Shamokin to its current site at Market and Pine streets. According to Conrad, 857 client visits were made in 2011.

Following are memoriums offered in conjunction with the event.

In Memory Of

Lottie Shingara from Margaret Conrad; Beulah E. Klinger from Frances Kerstetter; and Elizabeth Klokis from Mr. and Mrs. John Klokis.

In Honor Of

Carolyn Kae Taylor from Susan Roehs; Brenda K. Shingara from Kenneth R. Herman Jr.; Margaret Conrad from Marjorie Seidel; and Audrey Olvany from Valarie Zimmerman.
